I Cook It - You Name It

I have no name for this - but I tell you one thing - it was damn good.

At first I was thinking cassoulette. Then I thought to myself "who am I kidding." Real chefs would castrate me for my attempt at such a classic dish for everyday cooking.

So, keeping with my "Cooking Myself Skinny" theme - I thought of this. The only problem is I have no name for it. You do me a favor. I'll tell you how I cooked it and you tell me what I should call it.

Okay, let's go.

So I used turkey smoked sausage and hot turkey Italian sausage. I browned those and removed them from the pan. I sauteed carrots, onions, celery, garlic, and green bell pepper until soft. I added flour to make a roux and then I added chicken stock to form the sauce. I seasoned with dried rosemary, thyme, and basil. Then I threw in some canned white navy beans. I put the whole mixture into a bowl that I made out of puff pastry (the not so healthy part) and I ate myself in happy oblivious.

See the process below.

Remember, I need a name...help me, please? Who knows, if I pick the name you give me I just may come and cook this in person for you!

  1. Hmm, it seems like I've lost all the imagination I had as a kid. =^(

    "Everyday Sausage-Bean Stew in..."

Okay, I can't think of anything!

  2. It looks like there's enough liquid to call it a stew. So how about "Sausage and White Bean Stew in a Puff Pastry Bowl"?

  3. Thats a tough one, two types of turkey, navy beans and puff pastery.

    How about Turk-ish Delight.

Or do they have something called that?

  15. Why does it have to have a name? This is would not make me lose weight, but I would call it Cajun White Bean and Sausage Calazone.

  16. You may not be able to call it cassoulet, but you can at least refer legitimately to the bowl as a voul-a-vent (or however you spell it as I never studied French).

  17. You may call what ever you want, it looks super delciious.

Hi Darius. First time to your blog, from closet cooking. Your pictures and descriptions are great! Except for the seasonings, it sure sounds like a 'smoked sausage chili en croute' to me!

  44. Hey,
I know I don't make it over to your blog everyday and DANG, Dude, you make some good looking food. I'm serious, you come cook for us here and I'll bake whatever you want. My husband would so love some good refreshing, DIFFERENT meals than the ones I keep doing over and over. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such great comments. Even my parents commented to me about you and your love for my goodies! Guess the stuff I make probably won't help in your quest to cook yourself skinny--I know they certainly haven't helped me!
    Happy Holidays, D! ;)
