I Cook It - You Name It

I have no name for this - but I tell you one thing - it was damn good.

At first I was thinking cassoulette. Then I thought to myself "who am I kidding." Real chefs would castrate me for my attempt at such a classic dish for everyday cooking.

So, keeping with my "Cooking Myself Skinny" theme - I thought of this. The only problem is I have no name for it. You do me a favor. I'll tell you how I cooked it and you tell me what I should call it.

Okay, let's go.

So I used turkey smoked sausage and hot turkey Italian sausage. I browned those and removed them from the pan. I sauteed carrots, onions, celery, garlic, and green bell pepper until soft. I added flour to make a roux and then I added chicken stock to form the sauce. I seasoned with dried rosemary, thyme, and basil. Then I threw in some canned white navy beans. I put the whole mixture into a bowl that I made out of puff pastry (the not so healthy part) and I ate myself in happy oblivious.

See the process below.

Remember, I need a name...help me, please? Who knows, if I pick the name you give me I just may come and cook this in person for you!

Hmm, it seems like I've lost all the imagination I had as a kid. =^(

"Everyday Sausage-Bean Stew in..."

Okay, I can't think of anything!

Allie said...

It looks like there's enough liquid to call it a stew. So how about "Sausage and White Bean Stew in a Puff Pastry Bowl"?

clnmike said...

Thats a tough one, two types of turkey, navy beans and puff pastery.

How about Turk-ish Delight.

Or do they have something called that?

I think "mm mm mmm damn! in a puff pastry shell" is rather fitting.

That looks absolutely delicious!!! I'd name it...."biscuits and tasty"

Adrienne said...

Hmmm I don't know what to call it but it sure looks good! LOL

hmm, it does kinda seem like a cassoulet that i made once... minus the puff pastry compilation :) who cares what a real chef would call it! hehe

"bean surprise' or 'san francisco stew' I think things sound more official if you have a place name along with the food....LOL

I love the pics of it cooking, I swear I could smell the sausage ... a real 'sausage delight' :)

Katherine Roberts Aucoin said...

Why does it have to have a name? This is would not make me lose weight, but I would call it Cajun White Bean and Sausage Calazone.

12kyle said...

call it "food be gone" lol

You may not be able to call it cassoulet, but you can at least refer legitimately to the bowl as a voul-a-vent (or however you spell it as I never studied French).

Finla said...

You may call what ever you want, it looks super delciious.

He, he... ♫ Eat beans in every meal...♪ A great dish Darius!!! I meant to come earlier, you've been so nice leaving comments on my blog and I just don't get the time to be everywhere I want.

I would call them Judias Buen provecho!!! a literal translation would be Good profit Beans.

You know I just bought some really good sweet italian sausage from Whole Foods (if you can, try theirs, so good) and I was hoping to find a new dish besides another pasta dish. This looks soooo good....comfort food at it's best you know?

Well...everything sounds fancier if you use another language, right? So let's keep borrowing from the French ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist, your comment was too funny. :)

I'd call it dinner.

It kind of looks like something a peasant would have for a fancy dinner (that sounds really bad but basically I'm saying it's fancy looking good ole home cooking!) so I say, "A Peasant's Basket Delight!"

LOL... Nice job showing restraint on the title, I always wonder when someone is going to come after me with a clever for some of my names. How about "Cassourole"?

I've got nothing. My creativity is out the window.

I did just try making your sweet thai basil chicken. It was SO good, my family loved it. Cant wait to try some of your other recipes.

"Chicago Sausage Puffs"

Does that work?

Mequet said...

Since it's a riff on traditional cassoulet, you could call it cassouLIE. Heh.

Anonymous said...

A Mequet : Meh!
Hi Darius. First time to your blog, from closet cooking. Your pictures and descriptions are great! Except for the seasonings, it sure sounds like a 'smoked sausage chili en croute' to me!
Good weekend to all.

Hey are you going to tell me how to cook my turkey for Christmas?

I don't know about the name for this dish but don't put puff anywhere in there..LOL

Go B.

Hey,
I know I don't make it over to your blog everyday and DANG, Dude, you make some good looking food. I'm serious, you come cook for us here and I'll bake whatever you want. My husband would so love some good refreshing, DIFFERENT meals than the ones I keep doing over and over. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such great comments. Even my parents commented to me about you and your love for my goodies! Guess the stuff I make probably won't help in your quest to cook yourself skinny--I know they certainly haven't helped me!
Happy Holidays, D! ;)
