Asiago Stuffed Gnocchi in a White Wine Cream

It's a Sunday - why complicate things? Sometimes ending the weekend can be just as simple as beginning it. That's exactly how I ended mine. A bit of asiago stuffed gnocchi in a white wine cream sauce was perfect.

I have a rule - not sure if it's golden though. If there's a cream sauce and some kind of pasta - there just has to be peas...right?

Thanks - I'm glad you agree...even you too Complaint Department Manager - lol!

So, here's how this goes.

The Ingredients
1/2 pound of sweet gulf shrimp
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1/2 pound of frozen gnocchi (your choice of flavors - there are a million of them)
1/4 cup of frozen peas
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1/4 cup of white wine
1/4 cup of good Parmesan cheese
1 clove of garlic, minced
salt and pepper
a dash of cayenne
chopped parsley

The Process
Cook gnocchi as package directs. Drain and reserve. In a skillet heat olive oil and garlic over high heat for about 30 seconds. Add shrimp and cook until almost done. Add white wine and cook for about 2 minutes until it's almost evaporated. Add peas, heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, cayenne, and salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat and cook for about 2 minutes until sauce thickens. Carefully fold in gnocchi until well incorporated. Plate and top with more cheese and parsley.

YES - that's a biscuit in the background. I had a few left over from breakfast this morning. Why not have it with your pasta? I know white wine cream and biscuits don't sound that great together - but they were delicious!

Another really good view!

These pasta recipes are killing me. Of course you need peas with a cream sauce and pasta.

did someone say gnocchi?

This looks awesome D. I think I'm with you on the peas... you can never have too many peas :)

Give me the cream sauce and a big fat spoon! That looks wonderful, especially with a biscuit.
Yum.

I've never made gnocchi - they have it frozen? Wow. The things I learn on the good ol' internet.

And pasta with biscuits? Pshaw. Glad you're not a food snob. In my house, ya use what ya got. This dish looks fabulous!!

This looks really great! I have never (can you believe it?) had gnocci but want to try making it. I may have to make your recipe here. Seems simple enough (but I will have to work out extra time just to eat it! lol)

I love gnocchi and you have some great flavors going on this lovely cream sauce, but I must differ with you on the pea thing. I avoid any food on the menu containing peas.

I see nothing wrong with the biscuits though. It looks good to me.

gotta try this one too

Um can I come live with you? that looks amazing!

I'm big on peas in a cream sauce too. Perfect. Have you ever tried making your own gnocchi? I was just discussing this with a friend over the weekend. It doesn't sound too terribly difficult. I don't know how much better it would be than the frozen stuff though.

The CDM said...

Anything to a-peas me, ay? I'm surprised you didn't have peas with the mac & cheese.

Another gratuitous, you are much to kind.

Chef E said...

I keep reading about cheese...I wish I could just wake up each day to a fridge full of all kinds of cheese...your stuff looks good!

Looks divine to me. And yes, peas and cream sauce always go together. You're smart to use good quality parmesan cheese, it really does make a difference in taste.

Did you ever check out my "dogs on Thursday" posts? That guy is my complaints manager. He eats if you complain, because I'll take your damn plate away.

Veronica said...

Honestly, what doesn't go with a biscuit?? I'm not a big fan of peas...but I think I would really like this dish.

I agree peas and cream are a great combo. I like the frozen gnocchi but have you ever made it from scratch? It's truly easier than I thought it would be and you can mix so many different flavors. But for "everyday cookin" I'm with you on the frozen. I also like the shelf stable kind from World Market.

I'm thinking I'd substitute mushrooms for the shrimp. Fantastic recipe!

I am going to have to get on here, pick a recipe and try to do my thing.

It's a little intimidating being a rookie with little to no experience in the kitchen though.

I will keep checking in...

Gnocchi, white wine, cream, peas...what could be better. Sounds especially good with the shrimp!

Barbara GF said...

Yes, peas and cream go hand-in-hand. I especially like it with gorgonzola as the base.
Now I'm really hungry!

I really love these pics, Darius!! And, of course, its sounds ridiculously decadent :)

Oh good Lord. I did NOT need to see this at 7am. Gnocchi + peas + white wine? I am so there. Don't add all the wine to the sauce though, I want a glass with the food! lol Great recipe, Darius! :)

This looks great. I don't know that I always associate peas with a white wine cream sauce, but I can't see why they wouldn't go, and it makes the sauce a little healthier.

And why not a biscuit? We'd usually have some sort of bread (I'm from an Italian family), and a biscuit counts.

Nicole said...

You and your peas!!!!! LOL! I love gnocchi.

Jan said...

I think we should ALL come over to have a taste of this one.
But bagsey I get the triangular plate!

My my, these look so much better than the eggplant ones i tried to make :)

That just looks awesome!

Where did you find "asaigo stuffed gnocchi" to begin with? That alone would be unbelievable but adding shrimp and a cream sauce -- oh my how decadent!

Heather said...

Damn, that looks like a stepped-up version of my tuna casserole (but with shrimp instead of tuna). And a biscuit? I ain't mad atcha.

La Bella Cooks said...

I didn't know gnocchi could be this fantastic. I would easily be eating off everyone's plate at that dinner party!

This pasta looks beautiful. I have to try gnocchi one of these days.

This is surely everyday cookin'!

Gnocci is great and it is ultra easy to work with. I think children should learn to cook with it.

And I'm loving the cayenne used in the dish. When I looked at the pic I said to myself "that would be good with cayenne on the back end" and lo and behold, you used it! Which brand of cayenne do you prefer?

I could not do gnocci, heavy cream and biscuits though. Its way to much for me. I'd be laid out in a food coma after all those carbs. lol

This dish looks so appealing, I may have to make it for dinner this week. My family would LOVE it!

Lori said...

Oh! I love gnocchi. One of my absolute favorites. So funny about the peas. My husband hates them with a passion. Ha, ha! The biscuit made me laugh too. My mom makes biscuits with almost every dinner, even italian/pastas. :)

I want to try my hand at gnocchi from scratch but I am scurred. I will concur that fear, though.

And yes, I agree that peas compliment ANY cream dish.

Its very well written; I love what youve got to

better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
